Own packages repository

Exactly the same idea as SlackOnly, but made by me for my own use (not public). The tool to use is SlackRepo, which has extensive documentation, that I highly recommend. This post is not meant as a tutorial on how to use SlackRepo. It merely lists the settings I used and the steps I took for my own use.

Repology

Normally, I would just go through the list of SlackBuilds that I maintain and check each project’s website for updates. It is time consuming and (worst) really boring. I recently came across a very useful website — Repology, the packaging hub.

A sbopkg GUI

It is described as being similar to the Synaptic Package Manager, just simpler. The developer is Gernot Walzl and his web-page contains a lot of interesting stuff, among which the sbopkg_gui can be found.

Precompiled third-party packages

I find this understandable, since there has never been (IMHO!) a big and trusted repository for third-party packages. I used to install just a couple of packages provided by AlienBob (like LibreOffice and some of its dictionaries) and then compile everything else from SlackBuilds.org. Read the rest of this entry »
SlackOnly as a main third-party repository

My system is Slackware64 -multilib and all settings below take this into account.
