Disable snapping in Inkscape

I really like Inkscape and use it a lot for designing publication quality figures, conference posters and even presentation components. However, a feature that sometimes can just get on my nerves is the object snapping.

I searched a bit and find this discussion. A keyboard shortcut to disable the snap to feature, is the percent sign (% or SHIFT + 5 on most keyboards). Or there’s the button (not that hard to notice, but not for me…):
