I’ve been using the Webcore fonts available at SBo, since many years and always followed the post-install instructions in the README. However, I decided to post them here, for my own convenience.

Electricsheep save directory

I have Electricsheep installed and have selected it via XScreenSaver. However, my /home is on a SSD and I decided that maybe it is not a good idea to have the constantly evolving sheep stored in ~/.electricsheep. Therefore I looked for a way to specify a different directory.

Freetype hinting mode

I just upgraded to -current, which should become Slackware 15.0 at some point. I immediately noticed that hinting was awful. I tried changing the settings in Xfce, but there was no improvement. Finally, I realised that it should be set up elsewhere.

Disable GTK3 window management

Some GTK3 programs, such as file-roller and Evince, use their own custom title bar with minimize, maximize and close buttons. Under Xfce, I have experienced hiccups with Evince when maximized: it would refuse to unmaximize the window (or rather, does not remember the dimensions of the unmaximized window) and behaves kinda “sticky” to desktop borders. In another case, if I have the compositor turned off, the window edges are not smoothened and look ugly.

QT5 screen scale factor

In my previous post, I described the problem of having too large interface buttons, search fields, scroll bars, etc of Calibre (compiled against QT5). I found a fix of Calibre, however, it seems this problem occurs for other QT5 programs. For example, I installed AlienBob’s VLC package, version 3.0.4 on Slackware64 14.2 and noticed the same issue. So, a more general solution should be found.
