LibreOffice in KDE4

I prefer to make LibreOffice behave as a GTK+ application in KDE4. Somehow, it looks and feels better this way. To do this, I simply added the following line in /usr/bin/libreoffice (in the beginning, before the rest of the variables): Read the rest of this entry »


KDE 4 and intel video

Got a ThinkPad and decided to give a full featured and fancy KDE 4 a try. Very nice deskop environment, indeed. However every now and then, the computer would just lock up. Freeze. Nothing but resetting it from the power button would help. Read the rest of this entry »


Custom XFCE menu

Bigger menu icons in XFCE

One of the many things I loved about GNOME 2 was the “foot” menu. Its bigger icons made it look somehow more user friendly and uncluttered. At least to me :)

Tumbler: disabling ODF and PDF

Since XFCE 4.10, Thunar does not display thumbnails for some PDF files. There was a short discussion on LQ started by me, but I did not find a solution. Anyway, it annoys me, so I would prefer to have no thumbnails for PDF files rather than that. Also, I do not like to have thumbnails for ODF files. So, what to do? Read the rest of this entry »
