Extracting a *.snap package

I still use Skype, however I was stuck at an old version. The reason was that this was the last *.deb package of the program provided by upstream. For the following versions, it is distributed as a *.snap. I really know nothing about these and I thought I was done with Skype. Well, turns out that’s not the case.

I came across this discussion at LQ’s Slackware forum. Particularly, the post by rizitis was what I was looking for. He has prepared a SlackBuild which repackages the latest snap of Skype. The download link is quite tricky (discussed in the forum), all I needed to extract it was:

unsquashfs

The program files are in squashfs-root/usr/share/skypeforlinux/. Therefore, I updated my skype port and now I have the latest Skype running on CRUX.
